ID Project – Una aproximación al género del retrato

Un personaje. Un lugar. Un disparo. En ID Project, Jordi Bernadó propone una serie de retratos de personas que le inspiran. Científicos, activistas, premios Nobel, escritores, entre otros. La selección es personal, responde únicamente al deseo del artista de tejer un diálogo visual entre su mirada y los personajes.

ID Project explora la esencia de la identidad humana, aquello que supuestamente nos hace únicos. Pero las fotografías están sujetas a dos condiciones. Primera, los participantes deben elegir el lugar donde serán fotografiados. No puede ser un lugar cualquiera, sino aquel que represente su lugar en el mundo. Segunda, el artista les pide que den la espalda a la cámara. No es su rostro lo que captura, sino su ausencia. Un rostro ausente en un paisaje amado. El paisaje se convierte en la única pista que el espectador tiene acerca de la identidad del retratado.

Todos tenemos un lugar en el mundo, un lugar que amamos, que extrañamos, un lugar al que volver. Y todos tenemos nuestras razones para elegirlo. En este caso, el significado de cada lugar queda plasmado en la fotografía, pero revelado. Un secreto entre el sujeto y el artista.

ID project – An approach to the genre of portraiture

A character. A place. One shot. In ID Project, the artist Jordi Bernadó proposes a series of portraits of people who inspire him. Scientists, activists, Nobel Prize winners, writers, among others. The selection is personal, it responds to the artist's desire to weave a visual dialogue between his gaze and the protagonists.

ID Project explores the essence of human identity, that which supposedly makes us unique. Yet the photographs are subject to two conditions. First, the participants must choose where they will be photographed. This cannot be just any place, but that which represents their place in the world. Second, the artist asks them to turn their backs to the camera. It is not their face that he captures, but the absence of it. An absent face in a meaningful landscape. Place becomes the only hint the spectators have about the identity of the person in the image.

We all have a place in the world, a place to love, to miss, a place to return to. And we all have our own reasons for choosing it. In this case, the meaning of each location is captured in the photograph, but not revealed. A secret between the protagonist and the artist.
